Placenta Encapsulation

Your placenta is an amazing organ that supported your baby for the nine or so months before birth. It has done an amazing job of nourishing and supporting your growing baby in the womb, and yet it is often regarded as nothing more than "medical waste" after it is born. In many other cultures, the placenta is honored in a variety of ways and considered medically beneficial to both the mother and the child. Just as it protected, nourished, and sustained your baby, the placenta, when carefully prepared for consumption continues its job by:

Supporting lactation and increasing production of breast milk

• Facilitating an easier postpartum recovery

• Increasing maternal energy

• Decreasing likelihood of baby blues and postpartum depression

• Easing life transitions

Decreasing likelihood of insomnia or sleep disorders

I always commit to preparing your placenta with the utmost care. As your placenta specialist, I offer both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Raw methods of placental encapsulation. The TCM method is processed by steaming, thinly slicing, dehydrating, powdering, and encapsulating the placenta. The Raw method is thinly sliced, dehydrated, ground into powder, and encapsulated. Both are encapsulated into "00" sized vegetarian capsules. Many women choose the Raw method because it is the least processed (and thus retains more hormones and nutrients), tends to make more capsules, and you can take less per day (because they are quite powerful). Women who choose the TCM method do so because of the warming qualities of the way it's processed.

Each placenta is different. The TCM method makes less capsules - anywhere from 80-150 capsules, depending on it’s size. The Raw method typically makes 130-200, again depending on size. Your capsules will come in a glass jar, labeled with instructions. I do my best to return the capsules to you within 24-72 hours - sometimes it’s sooner and sometimes it’s a bit longer, if I have other births to attend.  The Raw method does take a bit longer to dehydrate so it's not quite as quick of a turn-around.
